손은 반복과 시간 속에서 스스로 학습하고 기억합니다. 오랜 경험과 감각이 축적된 손의 움직임은 의식적인 사고보다 앞서 작동하며, 때로는 말보다 많은 것을 전달합니다. 우리는 손으로 기술을 익히고, 감정을 표현하며, 자신만의 리듬을 형성해갑니다.
이번 전시 'What the Hand Knows'는 '손이 알고 있는 것'에 주목합니다. 손이 어떻게 사물과 관계를 맺고, 창작자의 내면을 드러내며, 감각을 통해 세계를 구축해 나가는지를 탐구합니다. 7인의 작가는 다양한 재료의 공예적 접근을 통해 손의 지각과 몸의 기억, 장인정신, 그리고 물성과 나누는 깊은 대화를 이어갑니다.
작업의 흔적, 촉각의 리듬, 재료와의 긴밀한 교감 속에서 드러나는 손의 지혜는 물질 너머의 세계를 보여줍니다. 이 전시를 통해 손이 말하는 방식에 귀 기울이고, 눈에 보이지 않는 지식과 감각의 층위를 경험할 수 있기를 바랍니다.
The hand learns and remembers through repetition and time. Movements shaped by long-accumulated experience and sensitivity often operate before conscious thought, and at times convey more than words. With our hands, we acquire skills, express emotion, and cultivate our own rhythms.
The exhibition 'What the Hand Knows' focuses on this embodied knowledge. It explores how the hand engages with objects, reveals the maker’s inner state, and constructs a world through sensory perception. Through craft-based approaches across diverse materials, the seven participating artists trace the hand’s perception, the body’s memory, craftsmanship, and the deep dialogue formed with materiality.
The traces of making, the rhythm of touch, and the intimate exchange with materials reveal a wisdom of the hand that points beyond the physical. We hope this exhibition invites you to listen to what the hand expresses and to encounter the unseen layers of knowledge and sensation.
