연결된 잔상
자연을 비롯한 주변의 사물은 예외 없이 나의 영감의 원천이다. 그 형태의 ‘잔상(이미지)’은 계속 무한한 기하학적 상상 속에서 서로 연결되고 해체되기도 하면서, 마침내 그 본연의 모습을 드러낸다. 마치, 인류의 의식 속에서 가장 원초적이며 완전한 형태를 생각해 본다.
이 형태는 도형의 근본이면서 완벽한 '원'을 매개체로 투각이라는 과정을 통해 재현된다.작품의 주된 표현방법의 하나인 투각기법은 금속공예의 가장 기본적인 기법이다. 수 없이 반복된 톱질을 통해 하나의 형태를 잘라내는 것이다. 정교하고도 섬세하게 오랜 시간을 공들여 해야 하는 매우 고되고 지리한 과정이다. 이 과정을 거쳐 형태는축소 되기도 하고 확장 되기도 하면서 드디어 하나의 장신구가 완성된다.
장신구는 제작자 본연의 개성과 예술성을 여실히 드러내는 작품이다. 착용자에게는 자신을 더욱 자기답게 표현하는 유용한 도구이기도 하다.
그러나 그것이 다가 아니다. 보통의 사물과 매우 다른 독특함이 있다. 인간의 몸에 ‘착용하는 사물’이라는 점이다. 따라서 작가가 아무리 영혼을 갈아 만든 아름다운 작품이라 하더라도 누군가 그것을 착용하지 않는다면 그 존재 이유를 잃어 버린다. 저명한 미국 장신구 작가 조지 아트 스미스는 장신구의 정체성을 이렇게 정리했다. "어떤 의미에서 아트 주얼리는 그 자체만으로는 완전하지 않는 사물이다. 몸에 착용하기 전까지는 그 정체성이 드러나지 않는다."
이러한 독특함 때문에 착용자의 이동에 따라 공간을 넘나들며 작품이 전시되는 효과는 더욱 더 빛을 발하게 한다.
어떻게 하면 나의 개성, 영혼, 지성과 감성 모든 것이 이 장신구에 최고로 아름답게 담길 수 있을까 고민했다. 바라기는, 나와 착용자, 그리고 착용자의 장신구를 보게 될 많은 사람들이 이 장신구를 매개로 기하학적 형태의 무한한 가능성들을 아름다움과 다채로움 더 나아가 그 경이로움까지 만끽하는 세계로 빠져보기를 기대한다.

Connected Afterimages
Nature and the objects that surround us are the boundless wellspring from which my inspiration flows. The lingering impressions of these forms dance and dissolve within the infinite realm of my geometric imagination, eventually revealing their true essence. It is as if I am contemplating the most primordial and complete forms that reside within the depths of human consciousness.
These forms are meticulously recreated through the intricate process of openwork, with the perfect circle serving as a fundamental element. Openwork is one of the primary expressive methods employed in my work, and it is a time-honored technique that lies at the very heart of metalworking. It is a laborious and time-consuming process that demands delicate and precise cuts achieved through repeated sawing. Through this meticulous process, forms are reduced or expanded, and ultimately transformed into exquisite pieces of jewelry.
Jewelry is a medium that serves as a radiant expression of the artist's inherent individuality and artistic sensibility. It is also a potent tool that enables wearers to express themselves with greater authenticity.
However, jewelry is more than just adornment. It possesses a unique quality that sets it apart from ordinary objects. It is a wearable work of art that adorns the human body. As such, even if an artist creates a breathtaking work that is imbued with their very soul, it loses its raison d'être if it is not worn. The renowned American jewelry artist George Art Smith eloquently summarizes the essence of jewelry when he states, "A piece of jewelry is in a sense an object that is not complete in itself. Jewelry is a ‘what is it?’ until you relate it to the body. The body is a component in design just as air and space are."
It is because of this unique quality that the impact of jewelry is amplified as it moves through space in harmony with the wearer's movements.
I have devoted myself to the pursuit of capturing the totality of my individuality, soul, intellect, and emotions within the jewelry that I create. My fervent hope is that I, the wearer, and all those who encounter the wearer's adornments will be transported to a realm where they can revel in the infinite possibilities of geometric forms, their captivating beauty, their mesmerizing diversity, and their awe-inspiring wonder.
