“I See You (나는 당신을 봅니다)."
영화 '아바타'에서 이 인사는 단순히 시각적인 확인을 넘어, 상대의 영혼을 마주하고 그 존재의 본질을 받아들인다는 깊은 교감의 선언이다. 판도라 행성의 모든 생명체가 거대한 뿌리를 통해 신경망처럼 연결되어 에너지를 주고받듯, 여기 모인 12인의 작가 역시 하나의 거대한 뿌리로부터 시작된 예술적 동료들이라 할 수 있다. 이번 전시는 같은 교정에서 예술의 씨앗을 틔웠던 12명의 작가가 각자의 시간과 공간에서 일궈낸 독립적인 세계를 선보이는 자리인 동시에, 우리가 여전히 보이지 않는 '뿌리'로 긴밀하게 연결되어 있음을 확인하는 여정이다. 우리는 같은 공간의 공기를 마시며 창작의 원동력을 길러왔고 그 시절 공유했던 예술적 고민과 열정은 우리 모두의 기저에 흐르는 공통의 자양분이 되었다. 하지만 시간이 흐르며 그 뿌리는 각기 다른 방향으로 뻗어 나아가, 이제는 12개의 독창적인 줄기와 잎사귀를 가진 울창한 숲을 이루었다.
목걸이 : 연결과 순환의 상징
이번 전시의 주된 매개체인 '목걸이(Necklace)'는 그 자체로 연결의 상징이다. 목걸이는 신체의 중심인 심장과 목소리가 흐르는 길목을 감싸며, 안과 밖, 나와 타자를 잇는 원형의 고리를 형성한다. 12인의 작가가 빚어낸 목걸이들은 각기 다른 재질과 형태를 지니고 있지만, 그 고리 안에는 '공통의 기억'이라는 실이 관통하고 있다. 우리는 서로에게 나직이 고백한다. "I See You." 이 말은 동료의 작품 속에서 나의 과거를 발견하고, 나의 현재를 투영하며, 서로의 미래를 응원한다는 약속이다. 작가들의 손끝에서 탄생한 장신구들은 이제 착용자의 몸 위에서, 그리고 감상자의 시선 속에서 새로운 맥락으로 연결될 것이다.

In the movie Avatar, this greeting transcends mere visual confirmation; it is a declaration of deep communion that involves facing the soul of the other and accepting the essence of their existence. Just as all life on Pandora is connected like a neural network through a massive root to exchange energy, the 12 artists gathered here can be considered artistic colleagues who originated from a single, colossal root. This exhibition is a showcase of the independent worlds cultivated by 12 artists who sprouted the seeds of art on the same campus in their respective times and spaces. At the same time, it is a journey to confirm that we remain intimately connected by an invisible “root.” We nurtured the driving force of creation while breathing the same air, and the artistic concerns and passions shared during those days became the common nourishment flowing beneath the surface of us all. However, as time passed, that root branched out in different directions, forming a lush forest with 12 distinct stems and leaves.
Necklace: A Symbol of Connection and Circulation
The 'necklace,' the primary medium of this exhibition, is a symbol of connection in itself. Wrapping around the heart—the center of the body—and the pathways through which the voice flows, the necklace forms a circular loop connecting the inside and the outside, and the self and the other. Although the necklaces crafted by the twelve artists possess distinct materials and forms, a thread of 'shared memory' pierces through the loop. We quietly confess to one another, "I See You." This phrase is a promise to discover our past within a colleague's work, project our present, and cheer for each other's future. The jewelry born from the artists' fingertips will now be connected in a new context upon the wearer's body and within the viewer's gaze.
